You know those articles that fill you in on lifestyle trends you missed? Think “Five Fall 2020 Must-Haves” and “Top Beauty Products of 2020.” Yeah, those. I went to do some research on those subjects for this article… but I stopped when I got to the Google search bar.

I had a bit of an ah-ha moment. 2020 has not been about the uprising of clear lip gloss or the best lululemon dupes you can get on Amazon. It’s actually been about anything but the materialistic things we think we need to help us become more beautiful.

I think the best beauty trend to come out of 2020 isn’t a product or technique – it’s the acceptance of beauty of all kinds. Intentionally finding the beauty in everything and everyone. Lifting each other up instead of picking each other apart. Embracing the things we used to hate about ourselves and deciding to love them instead. Doing more for ourselves and for others every day.

Our Society can be a tough crowd. It’s easy to feel self-conscious about what you look like, what you do, and what you say. Yet slowly but surely, we as a society have been moving towards the light. We’ve seen body positivity campaigns, racial justice movements, and a war against social media trolls. 2020 has been about people, connections, relationships, and self-love. We may still have a long way to go, but we’ve come so far.

While recognizing and celebrating others’ beauty, it’s important to celebrate our own beauty, as well. For me, and I’m sure many of you, Power Life has been a space where I feel truly proud of my inner and outer beauty. The Power Life community is a welcoming and accepting place, which is pretty rare in the fitness industry. The awesome part about yoga is that you are in touch with both your body and your mind. You’re there to “work out” both your physical self and your inner self. Self-love takes work – it isn’t always easy. But every step that we take towards loving ourselves, makes it that much easier to love on others as well.

So you want to know: How can I see my own beauty, and help others realize theirs?

Here are some things you can incorporate into your everyday routine to feel STUNNING every single day:

  • Give yourself positive affirmations, every single day.
    • Example: I am really good at my job, and people admire my work.
  • Reframe your idea of beauty.
    • Example: My differences are not flaws, they make me unique and beautiful!
  • Challenge current standards of beauty
    • Example: Call out your friends and family when you hear them passing judgement based on how someone “should” look.
  • Set goals that aren’t focused around weight or clothing size.
    • Example: I want to work towards doing all my pushups on my toes.
  • Give genuine compliments to others, that have nothing to do with physical appearance.
    • Example: I love how you look at things with such a positive outlook.
  • Of course, treat yourself right! Take time to invest in the health and beauty of your body and mind.
    • Example: Eat what feels good, make time for fitness, and get enough sleep!

Most importantly, know that you have a home at Power Life and that you are beautiful Just. As. You. Are. We can’t wait to see your gorgeous self in the studio!
