Have you ever wondered what teacher training at Power Life would be like? Well, you’re in luck! I went through training this fall, and I’m here to give you the inside scoop.
I’ve been practicing at Power Life for two years, and had been considering going through training for about six months. I signed up for Power Sculpt Teacher Training in the fall, and I made it my goal to finish and audition. Before it began, I had some nerves about how difficult it would be. I heard it was pretty intense, and could be physically and mentally draining. But when day one of training came around, those nerves turned to excitement. Everyone in the class was so happy to be there.
Since this is 2020, and everything requires a bit of creative thinking, training was different than usual. We held part of our sessions via Zoom, and weekend sessions were in person (which actually went so well!) Our first day included a full Power Sculpt class, get-to-know-you activities, and, of course, digging into the sequence.
It felt like I was learning Power Life’s top-secret formula for leading a kick a** Sculpt class. When you’re a student, you don’t think too much about the pace of the music or the reasoning being the teacher’s cues. You just know you’re getting a great workout and having a good time. With every new bit of information I learned in our sessions, I felt like my eyes were opening to why I love Power Sculpt so much. There really is a method to the madness!
The first few days of training were… a lot. There’s so much packed into a 45-minute class, and I think we all were feeling a bit of information overload. But you could truly see improvement in all of us after every single training day — our knowledge of the sequence, our cues, and our overall confidence. The steady improvement each day made the whole process so rewarding. I found a lot of comfort in my fellow trainees; there was so much positivity from everyone, which made every session so much fun.
At the two week mark, we had learned the entire Sculpt sequence, and were well into practice mode. Some of us got together in small groups to practice in-person. I practiced teaching to my friends and family. Plus, there was lots of studying. Although I put a lot of time into the training, I never felt overwhelmed or like I couldn’t complete everything I needed to. It was like homework that I actually enjoyed doing!
I feel like I need to mention that you’re going to be taking Sculpt classes A LOT. In the thick of it all, we were up on our feet, either teaching or being taught, for 1-2+ hours at a time. It was tiring for sure, but nothing a Sculpt lover can’t handle. I went in thinking my body would be wrecked each day and I wouldn’t be able to move. But I continued taking classes outside of our sessions, and it felt great to feel so strong!
Our last week was full of both intensity and celebration. We invited friends and family to take our class and took turns teaching sections to the group. This was our first taste of teaching to people other than our fellow trainees, which was thrilling! Our last session was a test out and celebration, where we taught the entire 45-minute sequence to a partner, and then took our partner’s class. We got feedback from the leads, received our certificates, and celebrated accordingly! It was the best feeling to accomplish this goal with 20 other amazing humans.
Nearly our entire class auditioned to become a teacher. (Yes, there’s an audition process, but I promise it’s not bad!) I was overwhelmed with how much we all wanted each other to succeed. Absolutely everyone was in each other’s corner, and that was the best part of the entire process.
I’m so glad I went through training. I met new friends, gained confidence in myself, got in some bomb workouts, and have a deeper appreciation for the class and studio that I love so much. So, if you’re looking for a sign… here it is. You are going to love it!
Great read!
