Power Life will be re-introducing hands-on assists in 2022.  With the return of assisting, we’d like to share the how and why with you.

Why we Assist

Our instructors provide hands-on assists to help students with safety, alignment, and form.  This could be gently guiding a student’s knee back over their ankle, or a hand on the shoulder to encourage relaxing the shoulders away from the ears. An instructor may also assist a student to support them going deeper into a posture, something they may not be able to do on their own. Assists can also provide encouragement, inspiration, and genuine human connection.

How we Assist

Our intention is to provide assists from a place service, rooted in loving kindness. We care deeply about the well being of our community and want to support our students. If you receive an assist, it doesn’t mean you were doing something wrong or you need fixed. It means the instructor wants to show you what’s safe and possible, so you then have the tools to return to that place on your own.

Assist Cards

When hands on-assists return in January of 2022, teachers will initially have the choice on whether to provide them to students.  And students will have the opportunity to accept or decline assists. If a teacher is offering assists, they will have assist cards available for students to take at the start of class. If assists are not being offered in a class, no cards will be available. If a student wishes to receive assists, they will take a card and place near the top of their mat. If they choose not to receive assists, they can either not take a card or slide the card under their mat at any point during class.

We’re excited to bring back this foundational part of our classes at Power Life as another way of connecting with our students and creating a supportive experience for them. If you have more questions about the benefit of receiving hands-on assists in class, chat with one of our teachers or studio leads next time you take class.
